Did you know that it’s biblical for a man to make coffee? It sure is.  A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, ‘You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don’t have to wait as long to get our coffee.’ The husband said, ‘ You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee.’ Wife replies, ‘No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee.’ Husband replies, ‘I can’t believe that, show me.’ So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says……….’HEBREWS’.

A little more on the serious side, there’s a new book out called, “When God goes to Starbucks“.  It’s written by Paul Copan.

In it Paul offers readers solid and caring Christian responses to questions people ask about faith that are being discussed in Starbucks, shopping malls, youth groups, and schools.

Each chapter provides succinct answers and points for countering the cultural questions believers are faced with today.

I recently read a very intriguing article relating to coffee and glorifying God.  I think you might like it. Here ya go.:   How to Glorify God While Drinking a Cup of Coffee.

30 Day Guide For New Believers

Global Media Outreach (A ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ) has put together a web site that provides a Free 30 day guide for new believers.   What I really like is their easy to remember domain name:  LookUntoJesus.com

look unto jesus

look unto jesus

The site also contains 6 easy steps for people who have recently given their life to Christ or are renewing their faith in Christ.  Each day, they have noted, there are over 1 million internet searches, from people all around the world, for spiritual terms like “I need God”…”Who is Jesus” …”prayer”, etc.  Their goal is to reach these people for Christ through cutting edge and emerging technologies.

They also provide online small groups, live chat sessions and several “how to” booklets that teach the basic truths about the Christian life.   Written by Dr. Bill Bright, the late founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, these “Transferable Concepts” are designed to present Christian truths that you can learn and then share with others.

If you are looking for a good site for new believers, check out:  LookUntoJesus.com presenting the good news of Jesus Christ over the Internet.

Got Small Groups?

If you have a lot of Bible Study Groups in your church (sometimes called small groups, life cell groups, ministry teams etc.) you know how challenging it can be to manage all of the information involved (structure, enrollment, attendance, etc.)  If you’re tired of all the paperwork required to track your church small groups let ChurchTeams help.

church reams

Church Teams is a web based program that empowers your leaders to update and use the information they need in order to enhance the quality of your small group’s communication, coaching, and tracking.  The beauty of ChurchTeams.com is that the entire program is available from any computer with internet access.  Some of the other features include:

  • Easy integration with your church website in minutes.
  • Built in mapping and filtering make it easy for people to find the best group for them.
  • Group leaders receive automatic e-mail reminders to post group attendance and notes each week.
  • Administrators and leaders can quickly generate attendance, absentee, and other reports.
  • Leaders, group members, and people not yet in groups can be e-mailed directly.
  • Five layers of security ensure that your data is safe.

We recently have started using this program at my church and I like it a lot.  Church Teams allows group leaders to post their attendance and group notes from their home or workplace over the Internet.  Leaders can even use it to communicate to their whole group.  This weekly update can help even the infrequent attenders feel connected and helps coaches and pastors know the condition of their groups better than ever before.  Check them out at ChurchTeams.com

$299. laptop that fits in the palm of your hand.

Looking for a church laptop?  Looking for one that is affordable, one that can get your basic computing done? Look no further. Introducing the 3K Razorbook 400.

This notebook fits in the palm of your hand.  What I like about it is that it only weighs 2lbs. This is extremely helpful for those who keep their laptop inside a backback. I remember lugging my 6.6 lb laptop to school for 4 years.   If I would have known about this two punder, I would have purchased one faster than you can say, “back pain”.

299 laptop

Don’t let the small size fool you.  It comes with a full size keyboard, a network port as well as built-in wireless access.   You don’t have to buy any software either.    It comes preloaded with a suite of Office tools.   The open source Office Suite includes AbiWord – Opens Microsoft® Word Files, GNUMeric – Opens Microsoft® Excel Files, an E-mail Client, (if you use web email like Yahoo or Google you will not use this) and a PDF Reader.

It comes with 512MB of memory and Linux operating system.  It also takes only 15 seconds to boot up. Wow!  (That even gives my mac competition)  Since it only has 4GB internal flash drive you will not be able to save all of your files to it (just copy your files to an external flash drive using the USB connection or just email them to yourself or use (Google Docs) to save your files online).

The 4GB drive is a flash drive and not a normal hard disk drive with moving internal components.  This makes the laptop “bump proof” (a cool safety feature for kids and clumsy adults).  You also will not be able to install any of your favorites apps but since it comes pre-installed with just about everything you need to get your work done that’s not really a big problem.

If you’re looking for a computer that’s new, not expensive, and a system that can take care of your basic computing needs, (like word processing, email, and surfing) or if you are a student, like to travel or need an extra church or home computer, this laptop has your name all over it.

Free Church Website Checkup

Is your church web site welcoming or friendly?

When people visit your church web site, will they find anything interesting, useful or inviting?

Internet Evangelism Day, a group that explains the potential of web evangelism, says, “church websites are an essential part of local churches’ public profiles to their communities.  Indeed, in some parts of the world, church websites draw more people into face-to-face church activities than any other method.   Church sites outnumber all other types of Christian sites by a ratio of 5 to 1.  Church sites could therefore be powerful outreach tools”.

Internet Evangelism Day has put together a FREE questionnaire to help you evaluate your church web site.  Check it out here.  The results display a detailed evaluation of your site and includes advice to help make your site better.

While your are at the site visit their “tips for church web sites” or click below to take a tour of their web site.

IEDay provides a wealth of information regarding the use of the internet and the church.  I’ve been receiving their free newsletter for a while now.  You should check it out too.  To join, send a blank email to:
bulletin-subscribe@web-evangelism.com It’s one of the newsletters that I actually look forward to receiving.  To view their previous issues visit: http://guide.gospelcom.net/resources/bullfeed.xml

Kidology – For anyone working in children’s ministry

According to Barna Research the probability of accepting Christ is much greater among children, than by teens and adults. In children between the ages of 5 and 13 the probability of accepting Christ is 32%. It drops to 4% for those between the ages of 14 and 18, and picks up to only 6% for the rest of life. The ripest field is children!

If you work in children’s ministry or know someone who does, introduce them to KIDOLOGY, – It’s for anyone working in children’s ministry:

http://www.kidology.org/

Kidology helps to equip and encourage those who minister to children.   They do this through their website, and through providing practical training, creative teaching resources, and personal consultation.

Kidology, in its simplest form, means “the study of kids.” In a broader sense it is a call to children’s ministers to approach ministry to children from within the context of the culture of children. As a missionary first learns the culture of the lost he hopes to reach the lost, the “Kidologist,” or student of “kidology,” seeks to first understand today’s kid and culture before attempting to reach them, so that they can be reached creatively and effectively.

Just as the Apostle Paul became “all things to all men, so that by all possible means I might save some,” (I Cor. 9:22b) the student of kidology seeks to customize his or her message so that children will be drawn to it, understand it, and accept it.  There is a great need to equip volunteers to do this.  Visit: http://www.kidology.org/
