Here’s a free ebook by Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute, entitled, “Answering Athiests, What Every Christian Should Know“.   His daily radio program helps to equip believers defend their faith against errors and false teachers.

I downloaded this “question and answer” book myself and find its 33 pages very easy to understand, although I did have to re-read a few paragraphs.   Questions include:

*  Are the Bible manuscripts reliable?
*  Does the Bible promote slavery?
*  Is there evidence for life after death?
*  If Christianity is true, why are so many atrocities committed in the name of Christ?
*  Who made God?
*  Is the Big Bang biblical?
*  Is Intelligent Design really a choice?
…and a whole bunch more.

Both of these resources can come in handy for Bible study, group discussion, for individual reference but mostly to be able to answer some of the tough questions that are many times asked of us.

Did you know that it’s biblical for a man to make coffee? It sure is.  A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. Utmost Living: Tim Storey

Tim Storey visited our church yesterday.  He was not only motivational but inspirational. 

In his latest book, Utmost Living: Creating and Savoring Your Best Life Now Tim says the reason he wrote the book is because too many people are stuck in almost living instead of utmost living.  Almost happy, almost debt free, almost living your dreams, you almost made it, almost!

From Jesus to Constantine: A History of Early Christianity

Christianity was born within the Greco-Roman world, at about its midpoint, with the birth of Jesus, probably sometime around the year 4 B.C. It’s important for us to understand the birth of Christianity not simply by situating it within the Mediterranean at this time, but also within the context of religion in the Mediterranean at this time.

The vast majority of persons living in the Roman Empire were pagans, meaning that they were polytheists who adhered to various local and state religions, or as scholars usually call these religions, cults.

When you speak of a “cult,” you think of a kind of marginalized fringe group that is on the edge of sanctioned religion. When historians refer to “cults” in the ancient world, they aren’t referring to it in that sense.

“Cult” comes from a Latin term, cultus deorum, which means “the care of the gods.” Cults are simply forms of ritual worship. The vast majority of people in the empire were polytheists, then, believing in many gods, who participated in one or another of the many state or local cults, forms of worship.

The Making of a Mentor

“Some people will lie, cheat, steal and back-stab to get ahead…

I recently started reading this book and have found it an excellent read. If you work with people this book is for you. It’s about “Nine Essential Characteristics of Influential Christian Leaders“. I’m challenged with the insights of both authors and am sure that you will find a couple areas that need some improvement as well.

Remember, readers are (most of the time) leaders and leaders are (definitely) readers. Read a good book lately? Let me know.

I just started reading this book (signed by the author) and have found it an excellent read not just for Pastors but for anyone who works with people.

Some of the characteristics are not new, but for me they were very refreshing and challenging. In this book, authors Mannoia and Walkemeyer examine the foundations of pastoral effectiveness and bring together nine experienced pastoral leaders to discuss the basic characteristics that exist in effective pastors.

If you are a reader, you defintely need to add this book to your library. It’s an encouraging book thats helps to evaluate yourself and your ministry.
