Answering Athiests – Free Ebook

Here’s a free ebook by Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute, entitled, “Answering Athiests, What Every Christian Should Know“.   His daily radio program helps to equip believers defend their faith against errors and false teachers.

I downloaded this “question and answer” book myself and find its 33 pages very easy to understand, although I did have to re-read a few paragraphs.   Questions include:

*  Are the Bible manuscripts reliable?
*  Does the Bible promote slavery?
*  Is there evidence for life after death?
*  If Christianity is true, why are so many atrocities committed in the name of Christ?
*  Who made God?
*  Is the Big Bang biblical?
*  Is Intelligent Design really a choice?
…and a whole bunch more.

Oneplace.com also has a huge selection of question and answers called, Biblical Answers to Life Questions here.  Check them out.

Both of these resources can come in handy for Bible study, group discussion, for individual reference but mostly to be able to answer some of the tough questions that are many times asked of us.

Did you know that it’s biblical for a man to make coffee? It sure is.  A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, ‘You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don’t have to wait as long to get our coffee.’ The husband said, ‘ You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee.’ Wife replies, ‘No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee.’ Husband replies, ‘I can’t believe that, show me.’ So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says……….’HEBREWS’.

A little more on the serious side, there’s a new book out called, “When God goes to Starbucks“.  It’s written by Paul Copan.

In it Paul offers readers solid and caring Christian responses to questions people ask about faith that are being discussed in Starbucks, shopping malls, youth groups, and schools.

Each chapter provides succinct answers and points for countering the cultural questions believers are faced with today.

I recently read a very intriguing article relating to coffee and glorifying God.  I think you might like it. Here ya go.:   How to Glorify God While Drinking a Cup of Coffee.

Download Apostle Paul

Download, Apostle Paul, a full-length college course for only $15.95 (price will increase soon).  If you don’t have time to take a college class then you definitely do not want to miss out on this excellent opportunity.  I’ve purchased this product myself and it’s very engaging.  It even comes with class notes!

Paul

Historian Luke Timothy Johnson, the best-selling author of The Real Jesus, offers a fresh and historically grounded assessment of the life and letters of Christianity’s “apostle to the Gentiles” in this 12-lecture series.

“One of the most fascinating, important, and controversial figures in the religious history of the West, Paul the Apostle continues to find champions and detractors, sometimes in surprising places,” says Professor Johnson.

Coming to grips with Christianity means coming to grips with Paul. There is no figure aside from Jesus himself who is more important to the history of this world religion, and no figure from the age of the early church about whom we know more or of whom we have a more rounded view.

You consider his letters to the Thessalonians, Corinthians, and Galatians. You explore his religious commitments as a member of the Pharisaic movement, his persecution of the Christian sect, the dramatic experience that changed him into an apostle, and his work as a missionary and church founder.

Course Lecture Titles include:

1.    An Apostle Admired and Despised
2.    How Should We Read Paul?
3.    Paul’s Life and Letters
4.    Problems of Early Christianity
5.    First and Second Thessalonians
6.    Life in the World—First Corinthians
7.    Life in Christ—Second Corinthians
8.    Life and Law—Galatians
9.    Life and Righteousness—Romans
10.    Fellowship—Letters from Captivity
11.    History and Theology
12.    Paul’s Influence

The course, Apostle Paul, is being offered by The Teaching Company, the force in adult education that distributes lectures by professors from some of the nation’s leading universities.

Download the 12 lectures for only $15.95 (my preference) or purchase the six audio CD’s for only $19.95.  What have you got to loose?

Utmost Living: Tim Storey

tim storeyTim Storey visited our church yesterday.  He was not only motivational but inspirational.

In his latest book, Utmost Living: Creating and Savoring Your Best Life Now Tim says the reason he wrote the book is because too many people are stuck in almost living instead of utmost living.  Almost happy, almost debt free, almost living your dreams, you almost made it, almost!

I like the illustration he gave about a kid trying to climb over a fence.  He’s almost there but just can’t make it over.  All he needs is a boost.  If you need a boost, If you’re stuck in almost living, this book is for you.

Tim Storey, America’s Comeback Coach, is a humanitarian dedicated to inspiring greatness in people.

From the time he was only ten, Tim has believed that his calling was to help others succeed.  His commitment to that dream has taken him to more than 55 nations as an acclaimed speaker, author, media personality and life coach.

Empowered and motivated individuals from all walks of life – from pro athletes, entertainment legends, executives and celebrities, to children and adults in some of the most deprived neighborhoods in the country – can attest that Tim Storey’s infectious spirit always inspires hope.

From Jesus to Constantine: A History of Early Christianity

constantineHere’s an excerpt from a FREE article I received from The Teaching Company. I’ve purchased several of their materials which I highly recommend to those who like to study. View thier full catalog of more than 250 courses, check them out at: TEACH12.com. They do a good job of enhancing the enjoyment of lifelong learning. Enjoy!

Christianity was born within the Greco-Roman world, at about its midpoint, with the birth of Jesus, probably sometime around the year 4 B.C. It’s important for us to understand the birth of Christianity not simply by situating it within the Mediterranean at this time, but also within the context of religion in the Mediterranean at this time.

The vast majority of persons living in the Roman Empire were pagans, meaning that they were polytheists who adhered to various local and state religions, or as scholars usually call these religions, cults.

When you speak of a “cult,” you think of a kind of marginalized fringe group that is on the edge of sanctioned religion. When historians refer to “cults” in the ancient world, they aren’t referring to it in that sense.

“Cult” comes from a Latin term, cultus deorum, which means “the care of the gods.” Cults are simply forms of ritual worship. The vast majority of people in the empire were polytheists, then, believing in many gods, who participated in one or another of the many state or local cults, forms of worship.
